Our Story
Waterrijk Oesterdam is a luxury resort located on its own island on the water in Zeeland. Nestled in the natural beauty of the Speelmansplaten, we offer a unique destination for families, groups of friends, and couples who want to enjoy space, high-end comfort, and the great outdoors. Whether you choose an exclusive waterfront villa or a stylish hotel suite, at our luxury vacation resort, you set your own pace—far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and surrounded by sweeping views of the Zoommeer.
The Oesterdam Experience
Our Story
What once began as a major hydraulic engineering project now forms the foundation of our vacation park. Construction of the Oesterdam began in 1979 as part of the Delta Works, resulting in the creation of the freshwater lake known as the Zoommeer. The dam was officially opened in 1989, followed in 1991 by the creation of the Speelmansplaten nature and recreation area. Surrounding this historic land once lay the submerged town of Reimerswaal, whose stories still echo through the area.
We owe our name directly to this remarkable dam. In 2001, founder and owner Mike Verweij set out with a clear vision: to develop a resort where luxury accommodations, high-end dining, water sports, and outdoor experiences come together seamlessly. The first major milestone followed in 2011 with the construction of four villas, designed by the renowned Dutch designer Piet Boon. This immediately gave our vacation park a distinctive, exclusive signature. In 2019, we opened the doors to the Marina Beach Club: the beating heart of our resort, complete with 34 modern hotel suites, wellness facilities, and meeting rooms. Today, we run our vacation park with a close-knit and dedicated team of 120 employees.
What We Stand For
At our vacation park, we offer luxury in a relaxed and accessible way. We’re not located next to a bustling city, but deliberately on our own peninsula surrounded by water. This allows you to completely escape the usual routines: no pushy entertainment teams or strict schedules, but complete freedom to set your own pace.
The best compliment we receive from departing guests is that it immediately feels like they ’re stepping into another world the moment they drive up the driveway. You’ll experience that relaxed atmosphere everywhere, especially in our dining venues. Dining & Lounge offers high-quality cuisine without being stuffy. Everyone feels welcome there, from couples looking to enjoy a leisurely meal to families with children.
Facilities
At the Marina Beach Club, you’ll find our Dining & Lounge restaurant with a sunny lounge terrace right on the water. For relaxation, our vacation park offers a luxurious wellness center with saunas and sensory showers. Active guests can rent a rowboat at our marina, go stand-up paddleboarding on the lake, or explore the area on an e-bike.
Our resort’s stunning waterfront location in the Oosterschelde National Park makes it truly special. Oesterdam Resort is a private island in the Oosterschelde, near Bergen op Zoom.
With the opening of the downtown complex (Marina Beachclub)—and with it the marina, restaurant, hotel, wellness center, event room, business rooms, and reception area—a unique all-in-one destination was created.
Our villas can be booked with private wellness facilities, such as a sauna, whirlpool, and Sunshower. Our hotel also features a wellness area where hotel guests can use the wellness facilities free of charge.
